English or French Closed Captioner – Remote Events (Contract / Assignment-Based)

We are seeking reliable and detail-oriented English or French Closed Captioners to provide live captioning support for remote and hybrid events across Canada. This is an assignment-based contract position, with work offered on a per-event basis depending on scheduling and client needs.

The role involves accurately transcribing spoken English or French into real-time captions for meetings, webinars, conferences, livestreams, and corporate events.

This is a fully remote opportunity with flexible scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate live English or French closed captioning for virtual and hybrid events
  • Monitor audio feeds and maintain high transcription accuracy in real time
  • Ensure captions are clear, grammatically correct, and properly punctuated
  • Work collaboratively with event producers, moderators, and technical teams
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality during client events
  • Troubleshoot minor audio or connectivity issues when required

Requirements

  • Strong command of written and spoken English
  • Excellent typing speed and accuracy
  • Previous experience with live captioning, CART, transcription, or accessibility services preferred
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, or similar virtual event platforms
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection and quiet working environment
  • Ability to remain focused during live events and work under time-sensitive conditions
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills
  • Availability to accept assignments during weekdays, evenings, or weekends as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with stenography, voice writing, or realtime captioning software
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and AODA requirements
  • Bilingual English/French skills considered an asset
  • Experience supporting corporate, government, educational, or public sector events

Contract Details

  • Assignment-based independent contractor position
  • No guaranteed minimum hours or assignments
  • Compensation provided per assignment or event
  • Contractors must be legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Ability to invoice for services may be required
